About This Destination
Akagera National Park in Rwanda is the country’s only savannah national park, located in the eastern region along the border with Tanzania. It is one of Rwanda’s most important wildlife conservation areas and offers a true African safari experience, featuring wide open plains, rolling savannah landscapes, lakes, and wetland ecosystems.
The park is home to an impressive variety of wildlife, including the Big Five—lions, elephants, rhinos, leopards, and buffaloes—as well as giraffes, zebras, hippos, and numerous antelope species. This rich biodiversity makes Akagera one of the best places in Rwanda for game viewing and wildlife photography, with animals often spotted roaming freely across the savannah.
